In the past 2 weeks, I have seen a number of people that I have talked to and a number of national reporters try to twist the messgae of the tea parties. This isn't a republican vs democrat rant. It isn't an anti-Obama message. It isn't a bunch of poor losers crying in thier coffee. We all need to resist the urge to turn it into any of those things. What it IS it about?? It's about our constitution, our freedoms, our taxes and our futures. Its about remembering why our founding fathers structured the government they way they did.

Our taxes are too high. The tax burden is spread unevenly among the people. Our goernment spending is out of control and growing worse. Our freedoms are being restricted almost daily. The national debt is climbing. We as a nation are becoming ever more dependant on the federal government to bail us out of everything. Business inovation is stifled.

The tea party protestors showed up to proclaim we have had enough. Enough of republicans and democrats that grow government and earmark spending for pet projects. Archaic rules in both houses of congress that allow party leadership to pass bills without floor votes (unanimous consent). Tired of unending cycles of deficit spending from congress and encourged by multiple administrations. Tired of judges that make laws instead of protecting the constitution. Tired of our weath being redistibuted without our consent. Tired of the slow erosion of our freedoms. Tired of state and federal government growth (well beyond 5 times the rate of population growth over the last 20 years).

We want to start hearing politicians proclaim the truth. Wouldn't it be nice to actually hear somebody in Washington say we are broke and can't afford it?? Any it!! We want to see proposals to shrink government influence in our lives. Not expand it. We want the governement to get out of our way and allow our businesses to grow and fail on thier own. We need to simplify our tax code and find a way to expand participation in those taxes. We will support any politician or candidate that adheres to core values and rejects pressure from parties and lobbists. Any candidate that shares our values. Whether they come from an existing party or a new better stronger political party.

Don't turn this into an us vs them. Make it into a right vs wrong. Make it into a constitutional vs not. Avoid labeling groups or people - instead make it about what we believe in. Fight the good fight - let them know they work for us. Make sure they understand that this country is about the people. For the people. Don't let anybody label you as anything other than a fervant patriot.
